Serious shortage protocol SSP053: 22 May 2024 – 19 Jul 2024
Pharmacists may supply the alternative set out in the protocol instead of the prescribed product, if appropriate and the patient agrees.
What this means
The Department of Health and Social Care has issued a Serious Shortage Protocol: during a serious shortage, pharmacists may supply an alternative strength, formulation or quantity instead of the prescribed product, if appropriate and the patient agrees, without going back to the prescriber. The protocol states its start and end dates.
